I have visited Marien Puerto Plata a few times over the years. I chose Marien this time because I got a good deal. Probably because there is a major construction project right next door. This is slow season, so only about 200 guests. I like slow season because there is no crowd to deal with. However, it appears the management chose to lower the quality of service to make up for low revenue. Check-in was slower than necessary, and I was given a lousy room near the construction. After I complained, I was given a nicer room near the beach. The room had a beach view, but the furniture was dated and in need of updating. The buffet was not up to the standards they had in the past. No meat at the snack bar except burgers and hotdogs. I reported a dead butterfly in the mayonnaise tub. The main buffet had stray cats wandering around and begging for food. The bars did have some premium alcohol and the room had cans of Coors light. I felt that the staff at the restaurants weren't very motivated to provide the best service. The pool and beach were pleasant, and that made me happy. So the quality has slipped at Marien Puerto Plata, but still OK for less than $100 a day.

Our vacation, 11-15 Dec 2023, in Be Live Marien, Puerto Plata was excellent. From the moment we arrived, we were placed and treated as VIPs. The hotel has aged, however, clean and well Kept. The service outstanding! I would like to thank Luis at the VIP lounge bar, who served us our first drink, Francis, Roberto, Cecilia and Josefina at Dining, among others, who were extremely hospitable and helpful. The food was great and presentable. The activities and shows, even though it rained on our last two days, decided to go to the sport bar and had a great time drinking and dancing, and again, great service.
We are going back! in 2024.

Excelente servicio a nuestra llegada y durante nuestra estadía. Un personal muy agradable. Luis en el bar, Josefina y Roberto en el comedor, y sobre todo la señora de limpieza habitación 8219.. El hotel Marien necesita renovación total. Ya no es un cinco estrellas. Los gatos dan un terrible mal olor al entorno del hotel. En varias ocasiones la comida olía y sabía recalentada, sin duda alguna. Gracias..

Mooi hotel, prachtig zwembad en strand. Heerlijk eten, was stop. Zou hem 4+ sterren geven qua luxe en extra voorzieningen. Niet alles was open. Waarschijnlijk omdat het geen hoogseizoen was.

Not a good experience. Went on a Celebrity cruise and chose this resort for an all inclusive day pass that we paid $75 per person. It was advertised as an open bar all you can drink with access to the VIP lounge and a dedicated waitress. The drinks we watered down, tiny cup potions, the buffet was covered in flies and nats, and no bar staff. I would not go back or recommend and had this been a longer stay or family trip I would have immediately requested a refund. It was listed as a 4.5 star resort but if was more like a 3 star but granted I did not stay in a room.

We enjoyed this resort. Older resort but very clean. They have started to renovate buildings. Not noisy from the construction. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We did VIP Adults only. The VIP team were wonderful. Kewry, Enerolisa and Yamiry were so friendly and never to short for a laugh. The resort was only about 30% full. There was always something to find to eat. The bartender in the VIP Carlos, always had a smile and was quick to say hello. The beach was clean except when a big storm blew through but after the storm was over crews were quick to clean up. The a la carte restaurants are delicious. All the staff are friendly. The housekeeper, Leonarda building 6, she was great. Always making sure you had what you needed in your room. If you choose this resort go with an open mind as you are not going to a 5*.

I had an amazing time at Marine. The staff was incredibly friendly. I ate the delicious local cuisine. I met Droopy who taught me the meringue and kept me busy in fun activities. I love his energy!
